Premium Quality Sanding Sheets & Sanding Pads

You can significantly improve the visual appearance of your projects when you finish sanding by hand. You can drastically improve the appearance of your projects when you hand sand with premium quality abrasives from Red Label.

Sanding Sheets & Pads We Carry

Red Label provides several different types of sanding sheets and pads. Each type can be found below with a brief description.

  • Dry Sanding Sheets: Dry sanding sheets are not waterproof and should only be used for dry sanding applications. Dry sanding sheets are often used for woodworking, but they can also be used to sand non-ferrous metals and plastics.
  • Waterproof Sanding Sheets: Unlike dry sanding sheets, waterproof sanding sheets can be used for dry or wet sanding. The sheets work with both water and oil. Wet sanding produces a scratch-free finish and is often used for knives, car bodies, guitars, and various 3D printed objects. If you’re trying to achieve a mirror-smooth look, then wet sanding with waterproof sheets is the process for you.
  • Sanding Blocks: As the name implies - sanding blocks are blocks covered with an abrasive coating. Sanding blocks provide a more natural grip for your hands, which can reduce fatigue to keep you sanding longer. Sanding blocks assist in providing even pressure over the entire surface of the block to avoid creating uneven surfaces. They’re great for sanding drywall, edges, contours, and auto bodies.
  • Sanding Sponges: Sanding sponges are dense foam sponges covered with an abrasive coating. They combine aspects of both sanding sheets and sanding blocks. Sanding sponges offer grip just like blocks, but they provide flexibility like sanding sheets. The flexibility sponges possess, allows them to reach tight corners and easily sand rounded edges.
  • Non-Woven Surface Conditioning Pads: Surface conditioning pads are a great alternative to steel wool, and they can be used for both wet and dry sanding. The pads are produced with nylon mesh fibers that have abrasive grains bonded to them. They’re great for deburring, blending, and polishing of woods and metals.

When To Sand By Hand

Power sanding is great. Power tools can save a lot of time and energy. However, there are instances where hand sanding is a better option than power sanding.

You’ll almost always end up with a better finish if you perform your last sanding pass by hand as opposed to ending with a power sander. Sanding sheets can also help you fine tune small spots on the workpiece that need extra care, or complex surfaces that would be difficult to sand with a power tool.

Sandpaper Sheets Vs. Sanding Pads

There are pros and cons to both sandpaper sheets and sanding pads. Sanding pads provide the grip and pressure needed to sand efficiently and effectively. While sanding pads can help you complete many hand sanding tasks faster, sanding sheets tend to be more versatile.

A sanding sheet can be used on its own as a standalone sheet. It can also be adhered to a block of wood, or some other material to create a sanding pad. The best abrasive for you is ultimately going to depend on your application and what you’re trying to achieve. Our abrasive technicians can assist you in selecting the best sanding sheet or sanding pad for your needs.
