These scalloped aluminum oxide sanding belts are excellent for contours and hard to reach areas. Grind edges without gouging! Perfect for shaping knife handles. This industrial grade material features a load and heat reducing topcoat, making it excellent for knife making and other metalworking applications.Flexible F-weight backing can handle spritzing but is not fully waterproof. A standard sanding belt with a straight edge may cut into curved edges in unintended ways if you’re sanding around them. Scalloped belts have curved edges, which allow them to more naturally sand around curved edges. It’s important to note that these belts are designed to use the slack of the belt. They shouldn’t be used if you are grinding against a platen or contact wheel.
The amount of slack you add to your belt will also affect how it performs. Tighter slack will create narrow lines while loose slack will allow for more flexible contouring. Scalloped edge belts are very popular for removing burrs from knife edges and sanding curves to finish knife handles.

First time using red labels abrasive and I am satisfied so far but I’m still trying them out. I have only used the scalloped belts so far but am excited to try the edge core ceramic on my next batch. I will posted after I have tried them out.
These are my favorite belts for contouring handles. I like how the scalloped edges prevent hard lines from getting ground into the blade or handle.
I'm just learning to make knives and found your Blue flexible 2" x 72" belts work great.
These scalloped belts work great for contouring handles, cleaning up tangs, and even dressing sheath edges. I've been using them in a slack belt set-up as shown. You still have to pay attention to avoiding edge lines in your profiling, but with the scalloped edge that is MUCH easier to control than a straight edged belt.

Used the scalloped edge belts to shape the handle of this knife. It does an excellent job on not creating grooved from the edge of the belt. Being extremely flexible because of the scallops make this perfect for both shaping and finishing handles on a slack belt. But don't use it on a platten. I broke a belt doing that somehow. Maybe its just me.
